A recent video of Tommy Rich aired with Rich saying, "Somebody say something about...Ladies and gentlemen, stay tuned to Memphis Classic Wrestling because you dang sure don't wanna miss this episode because it features me, The GOAT, The Greatest of All Time, Tommy Wildfire Rich!"
Jerry "The King" Lawler welcomed us to another edition of Jerry Lawler's Classic Memphis Wrestling. Lawler was once again at the Fitzgerald's Casino in Tunica, Mississippi. Lawler said that "Wildfire" Tommy Rich was going to be the subject of this week's episode. Lawler mentioned that Rich started in Memphis and remembered training a young Tommy Rich alongside Jerry Jarrett in a farmhouse in Hendersonville, Tennessee. Lawler also noted that Tommy Rich was the youngest NWA World Heavyweight Champion in history at one time. Lawler went on to say that Rich played a key role in one of Lawler's most famous battles ever in the history of Memphis Wrestling, a Hair vs Hair Match between Jerry "The King" Lawler and "The Universal Heartthrob" Austin Idol from 1987. Lawler highlighted that both he and Austin Idol had never lost a hair match before their epic encounter. We go back and take a look at this classic match.
With the Fourth of July approaching they ran the classic Fireworks City commercial with Jerry Lawler riding a firework. This is an older video from YouTube. To view all of their current locations, visit www.fireworkscity.com
They ran a trailer for the movie, "Dig That, Zeebo Newton" starring Memphis musician, Muck Sticky, and Jerry Lawler.
Jerry Lawler asked Tommy Rich in a recent 2019 video, "What's your favorite memory from Memphis Wrestling?" Rich responded by saying, "My greatest memory from Memphis, Tennessee. Let's see...Ha! That would be a no-brainer. It would be the night that Jerry Lawler got his head shaved in Memphis, Tennessee with all you clowns out there thought he was going to beat my man, Austin Idol. Ha! I camped out under that ring, I'm gonna tell ya. I had an air mattress, a six-pack of something and boy by the time I got out, Jerry Lawler, the lights were out for you, wouldn't it, brother? Oh, but you talking about scared. That boy that climbed up that fence, trying to get in over there to help Jerry Lawler, I bet you wish that you would've jumped in there with us because those police beat the daylights outta you like we did Jerry Lawler, right there in Memphis, Tennessee! You know, it took us thirty minutes to get out of that ring. That's when heat was heat! Cause we beat the daylights outta Jerry Lawler! We owned him! And hey the people knew, what we said, we did! And we did it that night in Memphis, Tennessee!"
Following the video, Jerry Lawler had a little message for Tommy Rich. Lawler told Rich, "I want you to know, Tommy Rich, that you and I. You and The King has still got some unfinished business. So if our paths ever cross. I don't care where it is, like I said, unfinished business."
Next was a video of the incredible, first time ever Double Jeopardy match from the Mid-South Coliseum featuring two rings, side by side, with two matches going on simultaneously. In one ring, you had Tommy "Wildfire" Rich and Bam Bam Bigelow and in the other ring, Jerry "The King" Lawler and "The Universal Heartthrob" Austin Idol. Match begins at 28:11.
Jerry Lawler closed the show by saying, "What a day we've had today featuring Wildfire Tommy Rich and of course Austin Idol, 1987, revisited right here on Classic Memphis Wrestling. And that's what we're going to do each and every week. Join us again next week."
Tom Nunnery was also on hand at Fitzgerald's Casino to play us to break and end the show.
Throughout the episode, they aired commercials from Jerry Lawler's Classic Memphis Wrestling Sponsors:
